Editor's take
The Akko Air 01 carves out a niche for itself as a stylish and highly functional 75% low-profile mechanical keyboard, particularly appealing to Mac users. Its launch in 2022 marked Akko's entry into the low-profile segment, delivering a compact form factor without sacrificing essential keys. The premium aluminum case not only provides a solid, weighty feel but also ensures excellent structural integrity, making it a durable choice for both office and on-the-go use.
Underneath its sleek exterior, the Air 01 features hot-swappable linear switches, allowing enthusiasts to easily experiment with different Kailh low-profile switch types to fine-tune their preferred typing feel. This flexibility is a significant advantage for those who enjoy customizing their setup. The inclusion of programmable RGB lighting further enhances the user experience, offering vibrant illumination that can be tailored to match any aesthetic via the Akko Cloud Driver.
One key consideration for potential buyers is the switch compatibility; the Air 01 is exclusively designed for Kailh low-profile hot-swappable switches, which might limit options for those accustomed to standard MX-style switches. Additionally, while it offers a native Mac layout, some users might find the Akko Cloud Driver software less intuitive compared to more established alternatives.
Overall, the Akko Air 01 is a compelling option for Mac users seeking a low-profile, hot-swappable, and aesthetically pleasing mechanical keyboard with a premium aluminum case and hybrid connectivity. For those who prioritize a compact design and Mac compatibility, it stands as a strong contender, though users seeking broader switch compatibility might explore alternatives like the Keychron K3 Pro or NuPhy Air75.
