This keyboard features a hot-swappable PCB, allowing users to easily change 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches without soldering, promoting extensive customization. It comes equipped with durable double-shot PBT keycaps, ensuring legends never fade and providing a superior tactile feel. The S98 also includes RGB backlighting, adjustable via a dedicated knob, and a gaming-friendly top-mount design for consistent key feel. Integrated sound-absorbing foams and dampeners are crucial for achieving a desirable "creamy" or "thocky" sound profile, significantly reducing hollow noises.

Connectivity is a strong suit of the RK ROYAL KLUDGE S98, offering tri-mode options: stable Bluetooth 5.0, a hassle-free 2.4GHz wireless dongle, and a reliable USB-C wired connection. This makes it suitable for a wide range of devices and scenarios, from desktop gaming to on-the-go productivity. The smart screen adds a unique touch, displaying custom GIFs, date, connection mode, and battery status, enhancing user interaction and making it a solid choice for those who appreciate a refined acoustic and visual experience.

The RK ROYAL KLUDGE S98 positions itself as a feature-rich mechanical keyboard for enthusiasts and power users who demand flexibility and customization. Its 96% layout offers a balance between desk space and full functionality, making it a strong contender for those who need a compact yet comprehensive typing solution. This keyboard is clearly aimed at users who appreciate a solid build and a personalized typing experience, making it a strong contender in the mid-range mechanical keyboard market.

A standout feature of the S98 is its hot-swappable PCB, which supports both 3-pin and 5-pin switches, allowing users to experiment with various switch types without soldering. The inclusion of double-shot PBT keycaps ensures excellent durability and a premium feel, resisting shine over time. The top-mount design contributes to a consistent and firm typing feel, while the integrated sound-absorbing foams and dampeners (including an IXPE switch dampener and silicone pad) are crucial for achieving a desirable "creamy" or "thocky" sound profile, significantly reducing hollow noises. The RGB backlighting adds a vibrant aesthetic, easily controlled by the multi-function knob.

One potential consideration for the S98 is its weight, listed at 3 pounds (approximately 1.36 kg). While this contributes to a sturdy feel and prevents desk movement, it might be a factor for users who frequently transport their keyboard. Additionally, while the smart screen is a novel feature, some users might find its customization options require a learning curve or specific software. The "Classic" style name might imply a more traditional aesthetic, which could be a pro or con depending on personal preference.

Overall, the RK ROYAL KLUDGE S98 is an excellent choice for users looking for a highly customizable and acoustically refined mechanical keyboard with versatile connectivity. Its tri-mode wireless capabilities (Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz, and USB-C wired) make it adaptable to almost any setup. For those seeking a similar feature set, alternatives like the Keychron K4 Pro or the Akko 3098B could be considered, though the S98's smart screen and advanced sound dampening offer a unique value proposition.
